Innovation: a Major Economic Challenge

With the ever-changing economic situation, research and development poses a major economic and financial challenge.

Companies must therefore be able to carry out their R&D project while perfectly controlling the risks they entail. To help achieve this, a number of tax incentives has been created, among which is a program developed in Canada in 1944: the Tax Credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED).

Your company may apply for this program if it operates in the following sectors: the development of new technologies, general experimental development projects and the improvement of processes or of industrial materials.

Three categories of companies are eligible for the program :

  • Canadian-controlled private corporations.
  • Sole proprietorships, partnerships and trusts.
  • Other corporations.

A precise interpretation of the definitions of SR&ED is essential to determine the activities eligible for benefits under this program.

Leyton: A Thorough Understanding of the SR&ED Program

In view of the difficulties inherent in implementing this incentive, a large number of companies must undergo tax adjustments.

Leyton reviews your company's R&D projects and assesses how likely they are to qualify for the program.

Leyton's consultants have a comprehensive knowledge of the SR&ED program. Their involvement minimizes the risk of your tax credit application being denied by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Our expertise and professionalism make it possible to optimise your potential tax credit return as it is related to your R&D activities.

What types of expenditures must be taken into account to calculate the tax credit for SR&ED?
